Four of Pentacles, reversed

You may be feeling the compulsion to control someone close to you. If so, the Four of Pentacles comes up reversed today to tell you to STOP! Let go! It’s fine to want to have influence, but you’re trying to rule with an iron fist. This impulse can come from legitimate fear and anxiety, as in the “helicopter mom” who only wants to protect her offspring, or from self-centered jealousy, exemplified by the suspicious spouse/partner who must track his/her mate’s every move. In any case, indulging in this controlling behavior is wrong. People, even children, need to have their boundaries and their free will respected. This card can also suggest an unhealthy obsession with money and material possessions. Many people - again, through fear and anxiety or through selfishness - cling to the idea that financial status and collections of valuable objects, expensive clothes, jewelry, cars etc. define personhood. This, too, is wrong. Such materialism undermines the spirit and makes true happiness elusive. If you’ve found yourself falling into this trap, practice giving away some things that you value. Doing this with a heart full of generosity will expand your consciousness and improve your life.
